In September 2016, Linda Dupret Headteacher at St Paul’s Primary School, introduced a new course for prospective middle leaders across the Brighton City Partnership for Education.
Linda is a trained facilitator for the NPQML and NPQSL qualification, and used this experience to write a 6 day programme, over the academic year, to support the professional development of Middle Leaders.
In the first cohort of the Middle Leadership Programme, there were 7 candidates from 5 schools. They all worked in different year groups and were interested in various subjects.
Over the course of the year, they undertook a study and produced a school improvement plan for their area of work.
The 6 face to face days looked at teaching and learning, data, team building, leadership and management, research methods, difficult conversations and opportunities to practice coaching and build skills.
In June 2017 they all came together in a final session to share the results of their projects. Subjects included:
The candidates were presented with a certificate on completion of the course and we hope many will go onto to be deputy heads across our schools in the future.
Further information about the support offered to teachers and leaders within BCPFE is available from the schools section.
