On Tuesday 11th July, 285 very excited year two children, from 6 of our BCPFE schools, met at Parkwood Scout Campsite near Devil’s Dyke. This was a new event for us, to encourage exploration of the woods and experience environmental activities. The event was co-ordinated by Linda Dupret, Headteacher at St. Paul’s and Kay Cowling, BCPFE PE & School Sports Specialist.
After an initial welcome and safety talk, the children went on to experience a range of activities, including fire lighting and toasting marshmallows with Forest School Leaders, Jennie Lamb and Katie Scanlon; making kites and flying them across the large field; a scavenger hunt for shades of green; building natural shelters for their peg dolls; following a sensory sisal trail while blindfolded; and circle games. The final activity brought all 285 children and staff together for a sing song around a large campfire lead by Linda.
It was wonderful to hear the babble of excitement around the field and the chance for the children to experience nature first hand.
